As seen in fig. A, the resin in my old fan speed resistor is bubbling and one of the prongs looks a bit burned. Yep, it’s cooked.

I did the same thing with a sway bar link I recently replaced. The ball in one end of the link was completely dried out (instead of being greased) and you could easily feel the play in the joint that was causing the annoying knocking sound over certain bumps.

I did similar with the MINI somewhat recently.
The Jaguar has an older style front link where there’s no ball joint just a straight rod with nuts, big washers and big bushings. The tip snapped off one so it would make a terrible noise as the stub pulled out or stabbed into the hole on the sway bar with every turn.
